theodore d. locke

I am a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Previously, I held academic positions at Trinity University (San Antonio, TX), Concordia University (Montreal, QC), and the University of North Florida (Jacksonville).  I graduated with a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Miami, Spring 2018.

I work on issues in metaphysics, philosophy of language, and philosophical logic. I am currently writing a book manuscript tying together my work on deflationary approaches to counterpossibles and metaphysical explanation. I also work on issues at the intersection of social ontology and social philosophy.

I can teach a broad range of philosophy courses. In particular, I'm passionate about teaching courses that show students the wide application of metaphysics and philosophy of language such as social ontology and the philosophy of love

In addition to philosophy, I enjoy criticism, literature, and poetry. I recently published an essay in Passage, a peer reviewed journal for hybrid scholars published by Hasselt University. In this essay, I use personal narrative, prose poetry, and philosophical methods to argue that grief is a response to a metaphysical injury.

I am also in love with mountains and backpacking. All cover photos are from my amazing journeys through the backcountry.
